7/13/15 - Hyde Park, NY

We toured Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Springwood estate, presidential library, and grave today.  Then we had lunch at the Culinary Institute of America.  After lunch we toured Eleanor Roosevelt’s home, Val-Kil. Then we drove into Poughkeepsie and took a stroll on the Walkway Over the Hudson.

Here is the room where FDR was born.

After Eleanor discovered that Franklin had been having an affair with her social secretary they had separate bedrooms.

The presidential museum was designed by FDR.  It was the first and there have been museums for all subsequent presidents.

FDR and Eleanor are buried outside the house near a garden.

Eleanor had her own house, Val-Kil, across the road.  It was really full of furniture!

The nearby Culinary Institute of America had three restaurants.  Two of them are only open on weekends, but we had lunch at the informal Apple Pie restaurant which was open.

Afterwards we walked over the Hudson River on a pedestrian bridge.
