8/14/15 - Clinton, MD

Today we moved to Cosca Regional Park in Clinton, Md. near Washington D.C.  This afternoon we drove to the nearby train station to get information on the train schedule and how to get around D.C.  Just down the road from camp is the Surratt House and Tavern.  This house is where much of the plotting by John Wilkes Booth and his fellow conspiriitors to kidnap President Lincoln took place.  After he changed his mind and assassinated President Lincoln he rode to this house with an accomplice and picked up some guns and ammunition that had been hidden there.  Mrs. Surratt owned the inn and tavern.  When the house was searched a gun that was left was found hidden behind a wall.  Mrs. Sarrat was the first woman to be executed by the Federal Government. We had a beer at the VFW and then went to the American Legion and had hamburgers for supper.
