Today we drove to Fort Ticonderoga. This is a reconstruction of the original fort built in the 1750s by the French during the French and Indian Wars. It is in a strategic position between Lake Champlain and Lake George and played an important role during the American Revolutionary War when the fort was captured from the British by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold and their Green Mountain Boys. The fort was full of original artifacts. We went on a great day because they were
having a special reenactment of a battle between the French and British. There were people dressed in period attire
around the fort doing chores such as sewing uniforms, washing clothes in pots
over fire and cooking in Dutch ovens.
After watching the battle we drove to the area called Kings Garden and
had lunch before walking around in the flowers.
When we paid for tickets to see the fort, Jim bought us tickets
to drive up to the view point on Mt. Defiance.
The view of Fort Ticonderoga and Lake Champlain and Lake George from the top was
beautiful. The middle of the lake is
the state line between New York and Vermont.
Then we drove through the Village of Ticonderoga, past the Falls of Carillon and along the road next to Lake George to Lake George
and stopped at Adirondack Brewing. The
town was jammed with people. Besides
being a regular tourist day, they had local bands playing at the park by the
lake. We went back to camp, I cooked
supper and then my son called to go over the weekly mail. The camp host also came by and gave us a bag
of candy for decorating our site for Christmas in July.
