7/2/15 - Cleveland, OH

We changed sites this morning.  There is a 14 day limit to stay here but you have to change sites every 5 days.  Another couple brought their trailer in around 10 pm last night and parked directly behind us.  They came back at 7 this morning and we swapped places.  They left for work and after breakfast we went to Mentor, OH to the James A. Garfield National Historic Site.  Garfield was the 20th President of the United States and this was his house.  He served less than a year before he was assassinated on this date in 1880.  The house was unusual in that almost all of its lavish furnishings were original.

We Then we drove to Lakeview Cemetery and visited Garfield’s tomb.  It was a grand building, financed mostly by donations from the general public.  Buried in the same cemetery is Elliot Ness and John D. Rockefeller.  We stopped by their graves also.  The cemetery is in East Cleveland.  At one time this probably was a beautiful area.  There were lots of grand homes that have been neglected or abandoned.  The roads here are extremely bad.  You can hardly drive because of deep pot holes.  One road we drove on had tires in the holes to keep people from driving into them.

After walking around the cemetery we went to the Cleveland Art Museum.  It had a fabulous art collection housed in a beautiful building.

Then we went to Great Lakes Brewing where we met the co-owner and a sales representative.   Dan Conway (co-owner) had his chemist Sara take us on a private tour.  He also paid for our beers.  Then we made a quick stop around the corner to Nano Brewing Company.  I sat next to a gentleman that let me watch his daughter on his phone - she worked for a TV station and was live at an Obama speech.  For dinner we had hot dogs at Happy Dog.
