8/21/15 - Clinton, MD

We took the train into Washington DC again today.  We went to two of the Smithsonian Museums.  The first one was the National Museum of History.  This museum has the original Star Spangled Banner and such things as the Ruby Slippers from The Wizard of Oz.  We also saw the chairs of Archie and Edith Bunker from the All In the Family TV series, Thomas Jefferson’s portable desk he used to write the Declaration of Independence, and Abraham Lincoln’s hat he had with him when he was shot.  Also there was a section with Julia Child’s kitchen and gadgets she used on her TV show.  They also had the Fresnel lens from the Bolivar Lighthouse in Texas, petrified sediment from the Brazos River, and the gunboat Philadelphia that was built and sunk in 1776.  Then we went next door to the Museum of Natural History.  Everything in this museum had to do with nature.  Animals, sea creatures, dinosaurs, rocks and minerals and lots of pretty gems set into jewelry.  Then we went back to Capitol City Brewing before returning back to the Casita.
