8/17/15 - Clinton, MD

We took the train into Washington DC again today.  There were a few memorials we didn’t see on Saturday.  So, we walked to see:
John Paul Jones Memorial
DC War Memorial
John Ericcson Memorial
Women’s Vietnam Memorial
Signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial
Presidents Park and the White House
German American Garden

We picked up tickets for the tour in the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.  They were for 3:45 so we went next door to the Holocaust Museum.  After the Holocaust Museum we walked next door and visited the U.S. Forest Service’s small museum while killing time before our tour.  Then we took the tour of the BEP where paper money, stamps, government documents and publications are printed.  They also print invitations to White House events.  No photos of the operations were allowed.  It was time for rush hour so we took the train to D.C. Chop House and Brewery to have a beer and wait out the crowds before returning back to camp.  Also at that stop was the U.S. Navy Memorial.  My dad was in the Seabees and my brother was also in the Navy.  Mom’s brother went down with the U.S.S. Indianapolis when the Japanese torpedoed it.
