8/16/15 - Clinton, MD
Jim thought we should take Sunday and drive to a
few sites near us while the traffic is lighter. Tomorrow we will go back into Washington to see some of the
sights. We drove to Fort
Washington. This fort was used in the
War of 1812 and the Civil War to protect Washington D.C. from attacks up the
Potomac River. Then we drove to
Piscataway Park – Accokeek National Colonial Farm. At Piscataway Park you can see George Washington’s estate Mount
Vernon across the river. Next we drove
to Thomas Stone National Historic Site near Port Tobacco. Thomas Stone was a signer of the Declaration
of Independence. We had a campfire tonight.
